Brent Foes founded the bicycle division of Foes Fabrication in 1992 when he took a look at current mountain bike design and realized he could do better. Drawing from his experience as a designer of off-road trucks, he began prototyping a monocoque full suspension frame with 6” of travel. The LTS debuted at Interbike 1993, sending shock waves through an industry still touting 2.5” travel forks. To eliminate the discrepancy between front and rear shock performance, Foes went to work on the F1 fork. Sporting 5” of inverted, dual crown travel, an internal floating piston, adjustable compression and rebound damping, and a 30mm thru axle in a 6.5 lb. package, the F1 was light years ahead of the competition in 1995.

So where does a suspension pioneer go in the new millennium? One word: Forward. In 2001 Foes Fabrications introduced the Curnutt R shock exclusively on its frames. Curnutt suspension technology is the granddaddy of the “stable platform” suspension that is so common today. With this, Foes becomes the first downhill builder to offer a proprietary frame/fork/shock combo. By 2002, Curnutt technology is available on the F1 fork. Other companies scramble to catch up with Foes’ suspension advancements.

Foes, always the trailblazer, have introduced the 2:1 shock actuation ratio: Five years in the making, the 2:1 ratio allows for the use of a lighter spring on the Curnutt XTD shock, which transfers less stress to the frame and adds to the pedaling efficiency. Foes Fabrications continues its dedication to producing a top quality line by keeping all of its design and manufacturing in its Pasadena, CA factory.
